Competency 1: Why Blog?

First off I have never created a blog and I am looking forward to learning something new. I have friends with blogs, but have never felt the need or desire to begin one. This blog's focus will include information and competencies for my current grad course 5013 Information Storage and Retrieval. I love teaching children and decided a year ago that after 12 years of teaching I was ready for a new challenge and adventure. My goal at the end of this new journey is to become an elementary school librarian. I love to read children's books and to share my joy with students. My topic of interest includes encouraging all children to read by introducing various authors and genres to reach every child's interests. I want to be knowledgeable in the various levels of books and what is most appropriate for each grade level. This class contributes to the knowledge needed to be the most effective school librarian possible.
